This is the second post. Once we have all read the chapter we can decide who is writing up which question and research. Also, please email me anything that you would like to post from the research done about our last case. I will update it as the emails roll through.

In a 38 year
old pregnant woman, is CVS or amniocentesis a more reliable method in diagnosing
a chromosomal abnormality in the unborn fetus?
Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great article about the safety of amniocentesis versus CVS. I know we haven't decided who is doing which question, but I figured it would be a good resource for whoever ends up doing safety. If no one else wants to, I don't mind doing it, but I'm not sure how we would divide the rest of the categories.

Also, Ester, this is a great summary of mid-trimester termination.

I think the two of us were supposed to work on that question. I'm just not sure how we're splitting it up. I know you were planning to focus on legal ramifications, but I'm not sure if I should just provide a summary or focus on something specific. I found a source with the various types of abortions suggested per term, so if I should do a summary, this would be helpful.

Thanks! --Joanna
I have very little information about legality because it is state based. I summarized the different methods of second term termination (how, why, risk etc.)
DeleteWe can split up the different methods of termination & maybe you can focus on specific state laws about abortions? Let's say compare and contrast what factors allow for second term abortion in a conservative state like Texas and liberal state like NY?
Of course you can do whatever you want- in the end there will be good information from both of us- Im just throwing out an idea :)
foreground question I came up with:
ReplyDeleteFor a 38 year old pregnant woman whose fetus has screened positive for Down’s Syndrome markers, is the risk of procedure-induced abortion greater when performing amniocentesis or chorionic stem villi sampling?
This would fit under the safety category. We have six people to do foreground and four topics, so I don't mind going at this one alone so other people can team up.
I'll do reliability. I am still reading the chapter so I will update with a question shortly
ReplyDeleteFor a foreground question:
ReplyDeleteWhat are the advantages of performing amniocentesis versus chorionic villus sampling for a pregnant woman whose fetus is 16-20 weeks old?
I tried to come up with a question based on the fetus' age so that someone else can still do advantages using the mother's age.
Foreground question:
Delete(Since you're doing the advantages of amniocentesis at a later time, I'll do the advantages for CVS at an earlier time)
For a 10-15 week old fetus that has screened positive for Down's syndrome, what are the advantages of using chorionic villus sampling versus amniocentesis?
Aaron's comment In a 38-year old pregnant woman, what are the disadvantages of performing CVS or amniocentesis in diagnosing a fetal chromosomal abnormality?
ReplyDeleteOk so I did a background question on amniocentesis.
